Volunteer Story #2 Dana

A short video series from volunteers.

blog3dana

Our Second Story in the 3 part series

Dana has a great story that resonates with most of our stories.  You want to serve but you don't make it a priority...life is more important..."I love these other things more than I do God."  But then she stepped over the line and was changed by the experience.

Health - Compassion Clinics

Praise: The first ever Compassion Clinic in Arizona was a huge success: Compassion Queen Creek - 350 volunteers, 7 churches, God’s kingdom at work, safe travels for Gary and Milan

Requests: There are 3 Compassion Clinics in May. Each clinic has a multitude of needs and details to attend to. God knows the unique situation for each clinic. Please pray for:

· God to provide just what is needed for each clinic site

· Clinic leaders to have God’s peace as they plan and prepare

· Clinic leaders to be able to know what “their part” is and what “God’s part” is and be diligent in doing their part and trust God to do His part

· Peace and unity for all involved

· God to use the clinics to build relationships among the various churches involved

· God’s love to flow through His people and touch the guests

· Someone at each clinic to catch the vision for follow-up and take ownership for it

· Creative ways to continue relationships begun at the clinics

· Continuing communication between guests and volunteers after the clinics are over

Volunteer Story #1 Ian

A short video series from volunteers.

ianblog

A couple months back we had a volunteer appreciation event.  So we put the word out to any volunteers who wanted to share stories about their experience.

We had some great new faces come and share their stories.  People who wanted to share their heart and encourage others.

Ian was our first storyteller.  He blew us away with his story.  He was honest and open about where he had come from and where God had brought him.  He clearly communicated a powerful vision of church collaboration and the journey from served to servant.  We thank the Lord for Ian and others like him.

Hoopla...what is appreciation?

Why we celebrate....why we care....

hooplablog1

A couple weeks ago we had our first large scale volunteer appreciation event.  It was a big step for Compassion Connect in communicating to hundreds of volunteers that they are valued and appreciated.  It was also important to celebrate the work of God in the midst of the Portland metro area.

We were honored to have so many people from different volunteering avenues come out to join together and celebrate.

It seems as though in our current "service-centric" Christianity...

September 3rd, 10th, 17th, 24th

Team news: Lane is moving into the barberry village hopefully this
month. Peter is hoping to move into the apartments around the same
time. Josh G. & Tyler M.: These two guys have been faithfully serving
at barberry, and are now moving out. Josh is getting married and
moving to troutdale. Tyler might be moving back with his family.

Compassion Rockwood: coming to Rockwood on the 21st.

Coming Up: clear creek vbs in August, and possibly a couple more events.

Prayer:
1) Lane & Peter are having trouble moving into their two apartments.
Please pray that the rest of the process would run smoother.
2) Davis Elementary had some budget cuts and now the bus won't be
picking up the kids on 188th. We are going to try and get some more
info on this one.
3) Peter has to go to court for an accident he was in a few years ago.

A Change of Heart

Two Years @ Barberry Village

jenblog

Many of you don’t know me but I think it would be safe to say that I’m the quietest member of the team. So this will sound like more of an introduction than just a reflection of my experiences here. When people ask how my husband and I became involved with the ministry my first though is, “We just fell into it”. Prior to Barberry, we were part of a small house church that focused on reaching out to the people in Rockwood. After a season in Beaverton due to a job loss, Dan was more adamant about returning to Rockwood while I still had reservations.

When we first lived in Rockwood it felt like I was constantly wrestling God. Growing up in Beaverton, I enjoyed being comfortable not having to give more thought to my safety. Who wants to be around gang activity on the corner especially when raising kids? I was operating more out of fear and stubbornness rather than faith and submission to where God had us. I think that if I had stopped my fighting then...

Rural Church Excitement

Breath of Fresh Air

P3120826

A couple weeks ago I was asked to come speak at a missions conference.  I was a little confused at first because I was expecting the usual foreign missions type of conference.  That is needed and great, but I don't have much to talk about on that subject.  Nevertheless, I asked some probing questions about the goal of the event.

The organizer told me that the church really wants to get involved in their own neighborhood.....they want to see the mission field in their own backyard.

Now that sounds like something I would love to talk about for hours upon hours.  I was excited to go down there with my family for a little weekend of rest/work.

I walked away completely encouraged....
