CC Exec is awarded Distinguished Young Alumni of the Year

An Important Message about Purpose

Multnomah University annually grants the Alumnus of the Year Award to an alum who has expressed long-term faithfulness to God in their life and ministry. New this year, we added a Distinguished Young Alumni Award in order to recognize recent alumni who embody Christian values in their work and personal lives.  Our goal was to try and help bridge the gap for students who might connect more easily with an alum five to ten years out demonstrating promise of longevity in faithfulness to God in their lives and ministries.

To Transform a City Day 3

Are you Alternative?

In this third and final blog preparing for the Portland City Impact Roundtable I would like to rest on the positive future that is ahead. It is an absolute honor to serve the Lord here in Portland, OR. He is doing amazing things and His Church is doing well. I would be remiss to follow the trending negative culture that loves to poke holes in the church. Here in Portland we can see what happens when small groups of churches act as The Church of a city or neighborhood.

To Transform a City Day 2

Is salvation your Ultimate or Ulterior motive?

This is part 2 of the three part blog in preparation for the Portland City Impact Roundtable that begins Dec 8th. Today I find myself engaged with one of the concepts presented in “To Transform a City.” . It has to do with motives and the goals we have when we enter into serving and loving our neighbors. It is a concept that probably ruffles the feathers of some tried and true fundamentalists. I’ve wrestled with the question of motive as it relates to community development and kingdom purposes in my own life.

To Transform a City

Whose Mission are you on?

In preparation for the Portland City Impact Roundtable I’m revisiting a great book about which I’ve wanted to write a short blog series. The book is “To Transform a City” by Eric Swanson and Sam Williams, Swanson will be the keynote speaker at the City Impact Roundtable. I’ve found this book to be the best read for practitioners who want to see practical models and strong biblical support. It isn’t packed with cutting edge vocabulary or high brow theology.

Joy Abundant

Blessing Apartment kids with a trip to the Pumpkin Patch

If there is one thing I won’t be lacking this Thanksgiving season, it’s the joy God has given to me in serving Him through the work we do at Barberry Village.

I sit on a hay bale and look over at my fiancé, Matt, with two kids piled on each side of him, a wide grin on all three faces.
